Training at Little Revel End

Here at Little Revel End Training & Behaviour Centre we offer help, guidance and information to owners of the smallest puppy to the largest adult dog.

We aim to promote interaction between dog and handler in a fun and informative way. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and classes are small so that everyone gets their fair share of attention. There is nothing worse than standing with your bored dog waiting for your trainer to get around to you or no one to witness your dog performing a perfect exercise!

Our training paddock is secure and situated in front of the kennel block. This emulates a park environment which is infinitely preferable to a village hall (you would not normally exercise your dog in a village hall!). If you can teach your dog to behave in an acceptable manner here, he is more likely to repeat this good behaviour when he is out walking with you.

Whilst we realise that the same method of training does not suit every dog, all our methods are kind and effective using gentle motivational techniques without the need for force or punishment. We understand dogs because we work with them all day every day and our aim is to convey to you the owner, how their minds work and therefore how best to teach them acceptable behaviour so that the relationship with your dog will be a long and happy one.

PRE-PUPPY LEARNING

Whether you are thinking of buying a puppy, are about to take a new one home or have a puppy who has not completed its vaccinations, these sessions are ideal for the whole family to learn about your new animal. Come and sit in the comfort of our Training Room and learn from the Trainers, or alternatively, we can visit you and meet your young puppy before he attends our classes.

PUPPY CLASS

Our Puppy classes are small (a maximum of six puppies per class) and are in courses of six lessons. They are carefully structured to cover socialisation with other dogs and people, handling, good health, grooming, toilet training, chewing, jumping up, mouthing, nervousness, as well as basic training such as walking on the lead, sit, down and simple recall - therefore ensuring that puppies are prepared for everyday situations. Handouts are readily available as well as useful tips and advice. Puppies attending this course must have had both primary and secondary vaccinations. Several staggered courses run each week ensuring a place is always available.

Our Training Paddock is an ideal place for puppies to be allowed off the lead to run, play and to subsequently learn 'recall'. Although puppies learn very quickly, they also tire quickly and their powers of concentration are short, recognising this very important point, our learning is split into practical and theory. In the winter months, theoretical aspects are covered in the comfort of the Training Room. Owners are provided with useful and informative puppy packs to refer to and on completion of the course, receive a graduation certificate, complementary toy and treats.

NOVICE CLASS

Our novice classes are a continuation of the puppy class for dogs over approximately 6 months of age but also for dogs up to any age, who may not have had any formal training. This course includes sit, down, stay, stand, walking on the lead, recall, retrieve and also covers help with minor problems such as jumping up, chewing, nervousness, etc…

This is an ideal foundation course for those wishing to do the Fun Agility.

FUN AGILITY

Give your bored or active dog something new in his life. A playground for him to enjoy and fun for owners too!

Group sessions learning to negotiate all the different obstacles in a relaxed non-competitive environment. Great for the whole family!

Hire our full set of competition equipment and play agility on your own or with friends.

Suitable for large and small dogs as the obstacles are fully adjustable. Dogs must however be over one year old.

ONE-TO-ONE TRAINING

These sessions can be geared towards solving a specific problem such as jumping up, pulling on the lead, recall and can be a good opportunity to brush up on your dogs general obedience.

Private tuition enables owners to achieve goals in a shorter time. One to one sessions are useful for owners who cannot commit to a course of group lessons.

They are also beneficial for nervous dogs, those who have come from rescue homes or first time owners who would like some practice before integrating into a class.

Many dogs start their agility training in private sessions as this enables them to take more time learning how to tackle each item of equipment.

AN INTRODUCTION TO "CLICKER TRAINING"

These sessions are designed for owners who have not experienced 'Clicker Training' and would like to know more. Clicker training was originally used by Karen Pryor for training dolphins because she had no way of showing the dolphin what she wanted them to do.
The clicker has a unique sound which tells the dog that what it has done at that precise moment in time is good and that a reward is on the way. It is less confusing for the dog than the human voice, especially if the whole family are involved in training. Clicker training is one of the many methods that we use, it is kind and can be an extremely effective addition to your training 'toolbox'.
